Dans Ocarina of Time. Heâs one of gamingâs most recognizable characters and a fan-favorite foil, but how much do you really know about The Legend of Zeldaâs iconic villain, Ganondorf? From a demonic pig monster to a powerful warlock, Ganon has undergone a surprising metamorphosis throughout his 26-year existence. This isn't a complete list of every Zelda game featuring Ganon, but a look at how Ganon's backstory has evolved over time. Legend of Zelda 1986In the original Zelda title, Ganon is a mysterious figure. He appears as a giant topaz pig monster who wields a trident. Ganon holds Princess Zelda hostage in his lair at Death Mountain, and the only weapon that will destroy him is a silver arrow. In the instruction booklet for The Legend of Zelda, Ganonâs name was spelled with a single n. However, during the in-game intro his name is spelled âGannon,â leading to decades of confusion. The Legend of Zelda A Link to the Past 1991Nintendo started to flesh out Ganonâs backstory in A Link to the Past. It turns out that Ganon wasnât always a boar-like demon, but had once been a man by the name of Ganondorf. Ganondorf was the leader of a group of thieves who found a way to enter the Sacred Realm and steal the Triforce. After Ganondorf rips the Triforce from its home, he plunges the Sacred Realm into darkness and begins his transformation into the vastly powerful being seen at the end of the game. The Knights of Hyrule and its Sages attempt to trap Ganon within the Sacred Realm, but Link eventually has to come and save the day. Linkâs battle with Ganon is reminiscent of the one at the end of the original Legend of Zelda, foreshadowing the reincarnation concept that would eventually be incorporated into the mythology in The Wind Waker. Fun fact A Link to the Pastâs English instruction manual gave Ganon the surname Dragmire as well as an alias "Mandrag Ganon," which means "Ganon of the Enchanted Thieves.â The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time 1998Nintendo dug into Ganondorfâs backstory further in the N64 title Ocarina of Time. Itâs explained that Ganondorfâs group of thieves are actually a race of people called the Gerudo. Within Gerudo society, men are only born once every century, making the Gerudo a predominately female warrior race. According to Gerudo custom, Ganondorf is King of the Gerudo by birthright. Ganondorf uses this power and influence to obtain entrance into the Sacred Realm to steal the Triforce. During the Ocarina of Time âretellingâ of the Legend of Zelda, however, Ganondorf is only able to steal a third of the Triforce â the Triforce of Power â which Ganon uses to conquer Hyrule and cast the realm into darkness. Of course, Ganon reveals his Boar form late in the game. The Legend of Zelda The Wind Waker 2003In The Wind Waker, players are given their first opportunity to sympathize with Ganondorf. It is revealed that Ganondorf's race hails from a land called the Gerudo Desert. This arid countryside is a wasteland of unstable climate that is plagued by sandstorms. The Gerudo have come to resent the inhabitants of the utopian Hyrule Field, which is why Ganondorf attempts to steal the Triforce. The Wind Waker also introduces the concept that Ganon, Link, and Zelda are all reincarnated entities forced to relive their epic battle every few centuries. No direct timeline is given, but it is implied that this cycle has been repeating for millennia. The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword 2011Nintendoâs most recent Zelda title, Skyward Sword, added a few new twists to the Zelda mythos. Skyward Sword is a prequel of sorts for the franchise, and even though Ganon isnât directly featured in the game, his origins are revealed. In the game, Ganon appears to be a manifestation of a demonic god called Demise. Linkâs companion during Skyward Sword, Fi, describes Demise as "the source of all monsters." After Demiseâs plan to obtain the Triforce is squelched, his hatred for Link and Zelda manifests as a curse that forces the trio and their descendants to eternally relive their conflict. The Legend of Zelda mythos has evolved a great deal, and we wonder what new directionâs Nintendo will take the property in the future. One this is for sure Weâre happy to keep reliving these adventures.

The third game in The Legend of Zelda series was released in 1992 in North America and Europe after debuting in Japan in 1991. The events of the first two Zelda games take place many years before the story begins. Link is portrayed by the player as he sets out to save Hyrule, vanquish Ganon, and save the Seven Sagesâ offspring. It does away with the side-scrolling gameplay of Zelda II The Adventure of Link and returns to a top-down perspective akin to that of the first The Legend of Zelda. watch 0140 The Sandman Will Keep You Awake - The Loop Ganon is the main antagonist of The Legend of Zelda A Link to the Past, and the secret final boss of Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons. Background Ganon was once an ordinary thief named Ganondorf who stumbled across the Triforce in the Golden Land. Upon touching the Triforce, the Golden Land was altered to his image, becoming the Dark World. Ganon himself was altered into a powerful being capable of incredible feats of might and magic. Not satisfied with his own world, Ganon sought to conquer Hyrule, as well. However, he was stopped by the actions of the Seven Wise Men and was sealed away. From inside the Dark World, however, Ganon was able to construct an avatar named Agahnim. Upon reaching Hyrule, Agahnim began to use magic in order to seal away the descendants of the Seven Sages in order to free Ganon. Once Princess Zelda, the final descendent, was sealed away, the Dark World was unleashed and Ganon was freed. After freeing the Seven Maidens, Link ascends Ganon's Tower and defeats Aghanim, who Ganon describes as his alter ego. Ganon then rises from Agahnim's body before transforming into a bat and flying to the Pyramid in the center of the Dark World, where he breaks a hole through the Pyramid's top. Link uses the flute to call his bird and follows Ganon to the Pyramid. Inside, Link and Ganon battle for the future of Hyrule. Stats Attack Potency Large City Level Massively superior to Onox, who casually made a storm that covered all of Holodrum. Speed Massively Hypersonic+ Can keep up with Link, who is able to keep up with Onox, who can move in tandem with lightning. Durability Large City Level Can take serious hits from Link's strongest weapons, which can harm Onox. Hax Invisibility, Shapeshifting, Duplication. Intelligence Above Average Gained the favor of the King of Hyrule and dethroned him. Stamina High Can endure a high number of attacks from Link's most powerful weapons and still go on fighting. Powers, Techniques, and Equipment Powers Magic Projectiles Ganondorf is able to shoot balls of magic energy. These balls can also divide themselves into smaller projectiles to cover a wider area. Fire Manipulation Ganon can create a wide array of fireballs, which can transform into bats and chase after the enemy, leaving a trail of fire behind them. Invisibility When he is located in a dark room, Ganon can go completely invisible. This is reverted if the room is lit up. Electricity Manipulation As Agahnim, Ganon has been shown shooting electricity out of his hands. Duplication As Agahnim, Ganon can create intangible copies of himself to trick the enemy. Though they're intangible, their attacks can still damage the enemy. Teleportation In the Oracle games, Ganon can teleport short distances. Shapeshifting Ganon is able to alter his shape at will. He's been shown transforming into a bat, or into a humanoid wizard that he refers to as Agahnim. Techniques Dead Man's Volley As Agahnim, Ganon can shoot a ball of energy that travels toward the enemy at high speed. However, they can be deflected back at him with ordinary weapons. Equipment Trident A large trident that Ganon wields as a weapon. He can use it to deliver physical strikes, or he can throw it around like a boomerang. Minor Feats Attack Potency/Strength Caused the collapse of parts of a room. Speed/Reactions Can move faster than Link can keep up with. Durability/Endurance Can withstand blows from most of Link's weapons. Skill/Intelligence As Agahnim, gained the favor of the King of Hyrule and dethroned him. Kidnapped Princess Zelda and the Seven Maidens. Ruled over the Dark World. Powerscaling Ganon is inarguably one of the strongest characters in the ALTTP era, being the one that has given Link the most trouble, and requiring him to use his strongest weapons in order to defeat him. It should go without saying that he's superior to his follower Onox, who has the two most notable feats in this era. Weaknesses Particularly vulnerable to weapons of a sacred nature. Contrary to popular belief, he can be harmed and killed by normal weapons, such as Biggoron's Sword. His invisibility can be undone by exposing his body to light.
